Sketches

There is nothing like a rainy day to encourage me to work on my sketches. We have already had about sixteen inches so far in August, so we really don't need or want any more precipitation. But it's raining anyway, forestalling the city from coming in to finish the roadwork in front of our house. Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day.

These bunnies were at the 4-H fair last month. Both of them captured my interest because of their stylish black and white coats. It was hot that day, and they were conserving their energy, resting in their cages. The challenge for me in using a black pen is to get the shading, and to make the darks really dark.

Delightful work Sherry. Have you see Albrecht Durer's exquiste 'Hare'? The link is here: http://artinstructor.blogspot.com/2007/11/albrecht-durer.html

Oh I am in LURRVVVV with that second sketch! You've captured him beautifully - and yes, indeed, he DOES have style. I am in awe of how you managed to not "overdraw" him - white fur is sooo hard - but you've handled it perfectly.

Really love the rabbit drawings, looking just as rabbits do, all soft and slouchy as they lie in their cages. I also love your blog, with its mix of drawing, family pictures and book reviews. One-stop-viewing! Thanks for sharing.

I just came by to say thanks for your lovely comment but I have to say your art is amazing! Looking at the photos of you, your life seems so different to mine, it's so fascinating to see and read about it. The photo of you going to school though is just like one I have of me - with the cats at the feet too! I hope to see more of your beautiful drawings. I love the lightly coloured background here, it really enhances the rabbit's colouring!
